Keeping your teeth young

As we get older suddenly we realised many things we didn't appreciate about being young - being fit, having smooth skin and having all your own teeth. As our loose teeth (and bridges) struggle to deal with chewier food we start eating bland mush and, there is no easy way to say this, OLD PEOPLE FOOD. I'm determined not to let that happen to me and I'm doing everything I can to keep my own teeth as long as possible, and when that's not possible to get the best possible teeth replacement. If you are like me and want to keep on eating whatever you want, I think you'll like my site. It's all about dental health and teeth replacement & maintenance.

An overview of dentures

Replacing teeth has become a common thing in the modern world and doesn't look weird any more like it used to in the past. The process has been perfected over the years, and it's now impossible to tell the difference between real and fake teeth, as you may call them. If you've had a bad accident or your teeth are in a bad shape due to one reason or another, dentures are the best deal to go for. It will not only bring back your bright smile but also improve self-confidence among friends and relatives. You can be assured that it a process that will have you smiling all the way back home. Below is a brief discussion of what you expect.

Expected results

Knowing what you expect before going through any procedure is always a good thing. It gives you a rough idea of what will happen hence preparing you for possible outcomes and gives you a choice on whether to implement the idea or not. Dentures are a good option for people who wish to replace their teeth without having to spend much. It's also a good choice for people that want their entire dental formula replaced but have not enough jaw bone to hold implants.

Dentures, even when well-maintained, wear down over time. However, the time that your dentures last is completely dependent on how the patient takes cares care of them. Simple things like chewing hard substances like gums and candy significantly reduce the life expectancy of dentures. Other factors, like jawbone growth, also have a high impact on your dentures. However, it's considered one of the best methods of getting your teeth back due to its affordability to the average person.

How the procedure works

If you've just been fitted with a new denture, you should expect a few adjustments for your bite to be perfect again. It's also important that you understand since there are missing teeth on your jawbone, it might tend to shrink. Dentures are designed to fit perfectly to your jaw; however, when the jawbone shrinks the gum may change in size hence the need to revisit your dentist for minor adjustments. On the other hand, if the denture is broken, the dentist can easily fix it. However, if the broken piece is missing, then the creation of a new impression is necessary for the denture to work properly again.
